The Enamel Development Initiative conducted a community engagement session with residents and leaders of Odau Community, Odual Kingdom, in response to the recent gas explosion in the area. Comr. Sokari Nikel, Community Development Representative, and Hon. Omerani Asime, Councillor for Ward 12, addressed the secondary impacts of the incident. They also affirmed that the destruction of crops has rendered most families economically vulnerable.

The leadership and residents of Odau Community are making a unified appeal to the Federal Government, Rivers State Government, Shell Petroleum Development Company, NGOs, and other relevant agencies for urgent humanitarian intervention. The priority needs identified are:

1. Emergency Medical Assistance – Drugs and treatment for injured victims

3. Food and Relief Materials – To combat hunger and displacement
4. Educational Support – Reintegration of displaced children into schools
5. Livelihood Restoration – Agricultural inputs and economic support for farmers and traders
